Individual therapy

True healing is integration with the mind, body, and relationships.

Individual therapy creates a validating and empowering space  where nothing has to be performed, managed, or explained away.

My work begins with safety, because only when you feel genuinely safe can the deeper work of remembering, mourning, and healing really begin.

This includes the personal, the intergenerational, and the collective wounds that come from living in systems that too often harm people based on race, sexuality, religion, or culture.

From there, we focus on reconnection because who we become is inseparable from the quality of our relationships and our place in community. I draw on somatic therapy, EMDR, Coherence Therapy, DBT, CBT, and CPT, tailoring the approach to what you actually need.

EMDR

Some wounds don’t respond to words alone.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, research-backed therapy that works beneath the level of language, using bilateral stimulation to help the nervous system process what it has been holding.

The brain naturally wants to heal, and EMDR gives it the conditions to do so; allowing memories that once felt raw, overwhelming, or always-present to finally settle.

For those navigating addiction, EMDR can be particularly transformative, because so much of what drives compulsive behavior is unprocessed pain seeking relief.

By addressing the underlying trauma rather than the symptom alone, EMDR helps loosen the grip that substances or behaviors have taken hold.

The result is not erasure, but integration: the past becomes something you have, rather than something that has you.

Group therapy

Group counseling is one of the most effective and underutilized forms of therapy available. In a confidential, carefully facilitated setting, members gain insight not just from the therapist but from one another where they learn to give and receive honest feedback, practice new ways of relating, and witness their own patterns reflected back in a safe environment. For many people, the group becomes the first place they have ever felt fully seen.

Walk & Talk therapy

Experience therapy incorporated with movement and grounding in nature. Sometimes processing life’s challenges while moving can create new insight and utilizes the body’s natural healing ability.

The Story Behind Ethan King’s Practice

Hello, I’m Ethan King, a Licensed Professional Counselor with dual expertise in trauma studies and addiction counseling. I hold a Master’s degree from Concordia University Irvine and an additional Master’s from King’s College London with a focus on trauma studies.

My practice address trauma across multiple dimensions from individual’s experiences to systemic and community-level trauma. This comprehensive approach led me to obtain my Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor license, enabling me to provide integrated support for individuals facing substance use challenges.

I believe that empathy and curiosity are fundamental to the healing process, creating clear pathways through pain and suffering toward recovery and growth.

Beyond Diagnosis

Within my work, I challenge the traditional diagnostic models that often pathologize normal reactions to abnormal circumstances.

Science Informed Care

I draw on the latest research while remaining critical of whose experiences that research has historically centered, prioritizing approaches that are both evidence-based and culturally humble.
